Maybe if Universal had been more ruthless, exploited its right to call a film The Wolf Man and then made this exact movie without calling the hero Talbot or crediting Curt Siodmak, I'd have been more tolerant of it. To claim that you're adapting Siodmak's Talbot story and then miss the point and the real horror of it, is pretty sad. But maybe that's the old fogy in me talking.Samuel Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00934870299522899944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9149411832127844385.post-65284762821081459672010-07-12T13:58:26.054-04:002010-07-12T13:58:26.054-04:00Samuel, I had exactly the same problem you referen...Samuel, I had exactly the same problem you reference here--that at no point did anyone really NOT believe that Larry was the werewolf. You rightly point out that the townspeople have him pegged as the beast even before he actually wolfs out for the first time, which is a big problem if you're going with the classic Larry Talbot conundrum. Also, anyone who couldn't see who Wolf Man Zero was from the moment he appeared onscreen not only hasn't seen a werewolf movie before, he or she hasn't seen a movie before, period.

I found a few things in the movie to like, and as a monster movie on its own merits I thought it was okay, but I really, REALLY wanted it to be great, and it just wasn't. Of course die-hard Wolf Man fans like Wendigo and me are going to be harder to please than the average moviegoing public, but still, the film has big problems it never fully overcomes.

Oh well, thank God for VAN HELSING--not b/c of the movie itself, but b/c its release occasioned the production of the Universal Legacy Sets, which are each worth their weight in gold. The Wolf Man set, maybe even more. ;)The Vicar of VHShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06832137990485130735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9149411832127844385.post-6397088631179135212010-07-11T13:06:15.516-04:002010-07-11T13:06:15.516-04:00I didn't really care for this one, either, Sam...I didn't really care for this one, either, Sam. I watched about 80 minutes of it and shut it off. I did find the 'WOLFMAN FLASH' pretty amusing. Then in other moments he's running at normal speed. I thought the atmosphere was nice to look at as Francisco stated, but otherwise, this one bored me.venoms5https://www.blogger.com/profile/13655919099947763891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9149411832127844385.post-71569271539467971742010-07-11T10:41:23.801-04:002010-07-11T10:41:23.801-04:00I see what you are saying, the character is a bit ...I see what you are saying, the character is a bit different than in the original, but I guess that is to be expected of a remake. I for one loved this movie, it was incredibly atmospheric, it felt old school mixed with new school filmmaking and the transformations were spectacular. I wished audiences would have caught on with this movie a bit more...but then again, werewolf movies have never been all that huge at the box office.Franco Macabrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10994905312221715861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9149411832127844385.post-86609070176274950772010-07-10T12:35:46.990-04:002010-07-10T12:35:46.990-04:00Samuel,

I personally never felt that the film was dark enough missing the essence of the original. Anthony Hopkins, an actor I rarely find out of step, seems to be in another film. Emily Blunt's character was undeveloped, a shame because she is such a wonderful actress. Even the special effects were obvious and like many films today relied on too much.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01808503055317962289noreply@blogger.com
